What is LEO Token?
LEO was issued in May 2019 by iFinex, parent company of Bitfinex, in a private sale that raised about $1 billion to strengthen the group's finances.
It is a utility token for customers of iFinex platforms. The full name, UNUS SED LEO, comes from a Latin phrase used in one of Aesop's fables.
How LEO Token works
Customers who hold LEO pay lower trading, lending and withdrawal fees on Bitfinex, in tiers set by the exchange.
iFinex committed to buying tokens back in the market every month with a share of its revenue and destroying them, until none remain in circulation. Burns are disclosed on a public company dashboard.
What LEO is used for
- Fee discounts for Bitfinex customers.
- Indirect exposure to the exchange's revenue through the buyback program.
Risks and points of attention
