What is Canton?
Canton Network is a public network developed by the company Digital Asset with the participation of banks, asset managers and market infrastructures. It was designed to trade and settle tokenized assets while keeping transaction data confidential.
Canton Coin (CC) is the native token. According to the project, it was created to reward actual network usage, with no pre-sale to investors.
How Canton works
Unlike blockchains where everything is public, on Canton each participant sees only the transactions it is party to. Applications run by different institutions can settle operations with each other in a synchronized way.
Fees paid in CC are burned, and new tokens are issued to infrastructure operators, application developers and users. The balance between burning and issuance depends on activity levels.
What CC is used for
- Paying network usage fees.
- Rewarding validators, application providers and users.
- Infrastructure for settling tokenized securities, funds and collateral.
Risks and points of attention
- A network focused on institutions, with retail access and exchange availability still limited.
- Operation of the core infrastructure concentrated in a group of participating companies.
- A recent token with little price and liquidity history.
- Transaction privacy makes independent verification of network data harder.
