What is Pump.fun?
Pump.fun went live in 2024 and lets anyone create a token in a few clicks at minimal cost. The platform became one of the highest fee-earning applications in the crypto market.
The PUMP token was sold to the public in July 2025 in an offering that sold out in minutes.
How Pump.fun works
Each token created on the platform starts trading on an automatic price curve: the more purchases, the higher the price. On reaching a certain value, the token moves to trading on a decentralized exchange.
The company uses part of its fee revenue to buy PUMP back in the market. The token gives no legal right to that revenue, and the buyback policy is set by the team.
What PUMP is used for
- Exposure to platform revenue through buybacks.
- Speculative trading.
- Benefits and programs defined by the platform.
Risks and points of attention
- The vast majority of tokens created on the platform lose almost all their value quickly, and rug pulls are frequent.
- Revenue depends on market appetite for meme tokens, which is cyclical.
- A large part of PUMP supply is held by the team and investors, subject to unlocks.
- The platform is the target of lawsuits and regulatory questions.
