The official Solana documentation explains that fees are paid in SOL and combine a base fee with an optional priority fee. Past instability: Solana has had outages and congestion; Fidelity notes a past outage of up to 17 hours and another incident in February 2024 of roughly five hours. Centralization concerns: high-performance networks may require stronger validator infrastructure. Memecoin speculation: many tokens have little utility and may be scams. Smart-contract risk: applications can have bugs or bad incentives. Competition: Solana competes with Ethereum, layer-2 networks and other layer-1 chains. Token economics: issuance, staking, unlocks and value capture affect the investment case.
Is Solana worth it?
The popular question “is Solana worth it?” has no universal answer. A better beginner question is: what role would SOL play in my portfolio, what risk can I accept, and what evidence would change my thesis?
