What is Ondo?
Ondo Finance was founded in 2021 by Nathan Allman, formerly of Goldman Sachs. The company creates blockchain versions of traditional financial products, such as government bond funds and dollar-yield notes.
The ONDO token became freely tradable in January 2024 and is administered by a foundation and a governance organization made up of holders.
How Ondo works
Ondo's products are issued by regulated entities and backed by real assets held with custodians. Access requires identity verification and is often restricted to non-US or qualified investors.
ONDO does not represent a stake in those assets or a right to their yield. It grants voting power in the governance of ecosystem protocols.
What ONDO is used for
- Voting on Ondo ecosystem governance proposals.
- Exposure to the real-world asset tokenization theme.
Risks and points of attention
- The token grants no right to revenue from tokenized products, and its value depends on expectations.
- A large part of supply is still locked and is released gradually.
- The business depends on securities rules, which vary by country and can change.
- Competition from large traditional asset managers launching their own products.
