What is OKB?
OKB was launched in 2018 by the exchange, then called OKEx, as a utility token for its customers.
Over time it also became the asset used to pay fees on X Layer, an Ethereum-compatible layer-2 network maintained by OKX.
How OKB works
On the exchange, the OKB balance sets fee discount tiers and access to new token offerings. On X Layer, the token is used as gas for transactions.
In 2025, OKX carried out a one-time burn of tens of millions of tokens and fixed total supply at 21 million OKB, ending the previous program of periodic buybacks.
