What is Kaspa?
Kaspa launched in November 2021 with no pre-mine and no pre-sale of coins. The project is based on research by scientist Yonatan Sompolinsky and is maintained by the community.
The aim is to preserve the security of proof of work while solving the slowness typical of that kind of network.
How Kaspa works
Instead of a chain where only one block is accepted at a time, Kaspa uses a structure called a blockDAG, in which blocks created at the same time coexist and are ordered afterwards by the GHOSTDAG protocol. This allows several blocks per second.
Maximum supply is around 28.7 billion coins. Issuance decreases gradually, month by month, instead of halving all at once.
What KAS is used for
- Payments and transfers with fast confirmation.

Risks and points of attention
- An application ecosystem still taking shape.
- Listed on fewer exchanges and less liquid than older assets.
- Mining dominated by specialized hardware, which concentrates production.
- High volatility.
