What is Injective?
Injective was founded in 2018 by Eric Chen and Albert Chon and incubated by Binance's investment arm. The token launched in 2020 and the main network the following year.
The network was built with Cosmos ecosystem tools and specialized in derivatives, spot markets and tokenized assets.
How Injective works
Unlike general-purpose networks, Injective offers ready-made financial modules, such as an order book shared by all applications. It connects to other blockchains and now also runs Ethereum-compatible contracts.
Part of the fees generated by applications is pooled every week and put up for auction: participants bid in INJ, and the winning bid's tokens are burned.
What INJ is used for
- Paying fees on the network.
- Staking by delegating to validators.
- Governance and taking part in burn auctions.
Risks and points of attention
- Real usage volume lower than competitors in decentralized derivatives.
- Growing competition from platforms specialized in perpetual contracts.
- Derivatives carry regulatory and leverage risk for application users.
- High volatility.
