What is Aptos?
Aptos went live in October 2022. It was founded by Mo Shaikh and Avery Ching, who worked on Diem, Meta's digital currency project that was shut down before launch.
From that origin came the Move language, designed for the safety of digital assets, and much of the network's technology. Sui, another blockchain, came from the same group of engineers.
How Aptos works
The network uses proof of stake and executes transactions in parallel: instead of processing them one by one, it identifies which do not depend on each other and runs them at the same time, increasing capacity.
The APT token pays fees and is used in delegated staking. Issuance rewards validators, and large shares of the initial tokens went to the team, foundation and investors, with release over several years.
What APT is used for
- Paying transaction fees.
- Staking by delegating to validators.
- Decentralized finance applications, stablecoin payments and tokenized assets.
Risks and points of attention
- Scheduled token unlocks increase circulating supply.
- Strong competition among high-performance networks, including Solana and Sui.
- Smaller activity and ecosystem than the main competitors.
- High volatility.
