What is Flare?
Flare was founded by Hugo Philion and distributed its token in January 2023, largely to XRP holders.
The aim is to solve, within the network itself, two problems that usually depend on third parties: obtaining prices and external data, and proving events that happened on other blockchains.
How Flare works
Two built-in protocols do this work. One aggregates prices submitted by dozens of independent providers; the other attests to facts from other networks, such as confirmation of a payment. The network's validators take part in both.
Building on them, Flare allows creating versions of assets from networks without smart contracts, such as XRP, for use in financial applications. The FLR token pays fees, is staked and can be delegated to data providers in exchange for rewards.
What FLR is used for
- Paying fees and staking on the network.
- Delegating to data providers in exchange for rewards.
- Collateral for issuing assets from other networks inside Flare.
Risks and points of attention
- Annual token inflation and monthly releases from the initial distribution increase supply.
- Assets brought from other networks depend on agents and collateral and carry risk similar to bridges.
- An application ecosystem that is still small.
- High volatility.
