What is Open USD?
Open USD presents itself as the first stablecoin designed as open infrastructure. Instead of a single issuer keeping the yield on reserves, the model passes nearly all of that gain to the platforms that use the token most.
Open Standard handles operations, and rules are set jointly by the consortium's partners. The token entered circulation in 2026.
How Open USD works
Like other payment stablecoins, OUSD aims to hold a 1-to-1 dollar peg through reserves. The composition of those reserves, the custodians and the verification reports should be checked on the project's official channels.
The economic incentive is the distinguishing feature: payment companies, wallets and exchanges that distribute OUSD receive most of the revenue generated, which encourages them to adopt the token rather than issue their own.
What OUSD is used for
- Payments and settlement between companies.
- Digital dollar in partner wallets and platforms.
- Trading on platforms that list the token.
Risks and points of attention
- A very recent stablecoin with no track record in periods of stress.
- Risk of the operator, partners and reserve custodians.
- Another token uses the same ticker, Origin Dollar; always check the issuer and the contract address.
- Currency risk: its value in other currencies follows the dollar exchange rate.
