What is Midnight?

Midnight was developed by companies linked to Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson and works as a partner network of that blockchain. The NIGHT token reached the market in December 2025.

Its aim is what the project calls rational privacy: applications can keep data confidential while proving to regulators or partners that they comply with certain rules.

How Midnight works

The network uses two elements. NIGHT is the public token, used for governance and network security. Holders continuously generate a resource called DUST, which cannot be transferred and is used to pay for shielded transactions.

A large share of supply was distributed for free to holders of other cryptocurrencies, with release in stages over several months.
