What is Aster?
Aster emerged in late 2024 from the merger of two projects, Astherus and APX Finance. The ASTER token launched in September 2025, and holders of the old APX token were able to migrate.
The platform allows leveraged trading of perpetual contracts without handing custody of funds to a company.
How Aster works
Users deposit collateral in smart contracts and trade with leverage. The platform offers features such as hidden orders, which do not appear in the order book, and accepts yield-bearing assets as margin.
ASTER is used for governance, fee discounts and reward programs. Part of platform revenue goes to token buybacks, under rules set by the team.
What ASTER is used for
- Fee discounts and rewards on the platform.
- Voting on governance decisions.
- Exposure to trading volume through buybacks.
Risks and points of attention
- Leveraged derivatives can liquidate the entire margin in fast moves.
- Data services have questioned the quality of the volumes reported by the platform.
- Supply concentrated in a few addresses and scheduled unlocks.
- A recent project, with smart contract risk and derivatives regulation risk.
