What a market dashboard shows — and what it still cannot answer

A simple guide to reading total value, dominance and volume without turning a single number into an investment decision.

Start with the map, not a guess

A market dashboard often displays three figures first: total market value, Bitcoin dominance and trading volume. In the reading used for this edition, the market tracked by CoinGecko was around USD 2.29 trillion and Bitcoin dominance was near 56.5%. These data change constantly: treat them as a snapshot, not a forecast.

Total value is the sum of the market capitalizations tracked by a provider. Dominance is Bitcoin's share of that total. Volume estimates how much was traded during a period. Each number helps you ask questions; none can answer by itself whether it is time to buy or sell.

A practical reading for beginners

Compare the current figure with the same dashboard's history. Then ask whether the move appeared across many assets or stayed concentrated, whether volume follows price, and whether news explains the change. This routine reduces the chance of treating a short fluctuation as a confirmed trend.

The most important limit

Market data depend on each provider's coverage and methodology. Before using a number in a decision, check its source, update time and whether it measures spot markets, derivatives or both.
