On-chain metrics: four questions before interpreting a chart
Public data can help observe network activity, but they require technical context and limits on interpretation.

What is in the public record
On public networks, blocks and transactions can be checked by anyone. That makes it possible to observe fees, transfers and block usage without relying only on third-party accounts.
Visibility does not mean perfect identification: an address is not automatically a person. Exchanges group customer balances and internal transfers can happen off-chain.
Four useful questions
Is the activity recurring or temporary? Does the metric measure users, addresses, transactions or value transferred? Was there a technical change that affects comparison? Does the conclusion appear in more than one metric?
How to use data without false precision
Combine on-chain data with price, liquidity and knowledge of the network. Record the source, methodology and date of review so the reading can be updated or corrected later.
