Overview

Binance is one of the largest global crypto platforms. It offers spot trading, simple conversion, P2P, crypto-yield products, staking, advanced trading tools, APIs, wallet tools, education and security features in one ecosystem. That can help beginners, but it can also encourage people to use products they do not understand yet.

This is an educational review, not investment advice. It separates Binance as an exchange from BNB as a cryptoasset, explains advantages and risks, and highlights fees, Proof of Reserves, custody, regulation and security checks.

What Binance is

Binance was launched in 2017 and became one of the world's leading crypto exchanges by trading volume. In July 2026, Binance said it had more than 323 million registered users across more than 100 countries and over US$156 trillion in all-time volume.

Advantages

Binance's main advantages are liquidity, broad asset availability, many products in one place, beginner and advanced interfaces, security features and public Proof of Reserves information. For most beginners, spot trading is the cleanest starting point because it means buying or selling the asset directly without leverage by default.

Risks

The main risks are counterparty risk, regional availability differences, product complexity, user-security failures, custody concentration and regulatory history. In 2023, U.S. authorities announced major resolutions involving Binance, AML, registration and sanctions issues. In 2025, the SEC dismissed its civil enforcement action against Binance entities and Changpeng Zhao with prejudice, while noting that the dismissal did not necessarily reflect its position on other matters.

Proof of Reserves

Proof of Reserves is a transparency tool that helps show whether customer balances included in a snapshot are backed by assets. Binance Academy explains Merkle Tree and zero-knowledge approaches. Still, PoR is not self-custody, does not prove every off-chain liability, and does not remove operational or user-error risk.

Beginner checklist

Verify the entity and region. Understand which product you are using. Check fees, spread, withdrawal network and final amount. Enable strong two-factor authentication and anti-phishing controls. Make a small deposit and withdrawal test. Decide what stays on the exchange and what moves to self-custody. Keep records for taxes and personal control.

Cripto View verdict

Binance can be a strong tool for liquidity, asset variety and market access. For beginners, the safest use is gradual: start with spot, confirm costs, protect the account and test withdrawals. The main caution is not to confuse a large platform with risk-free investing.
