Your first crypto wallet: what to check before receiving or sending

The right wallet depends on your use, but recovery, the official source and a small test are universal checks.

A wallet is an access tool

A crypto wallet helps you view balances and authorize transactions. Depending on the model, you or a provider may control the keys. That difference changes who can recover access and who bears the operational responsibility.

Check before receiving

Install software only from official sources, confirm the supported network and learn where recovery information is shown. Never disclose a recovery phrase or private key to receive funds or unlock a wallet.

Test the route

For a new address, network or platform, send a small amount first. Confirm the recipient, address and network before authorizing the transaction. A short pause prevents many irreversible errors.
